Icebreaker Round 1 - 2015
The focus of the Towy Riders cycling club moved to the track last weekend at Newport International Velodrome. The first round of the Icebreaker series saw the best riders from across the UK race in an Omnium, consisting of scratch, points and an elimination races. Over two hundred riders were camped in centre on the track with rollers whirring with riders warming up and cooling down. The under twelves had three representatives in both girls and boys. Rosie Finucane proved the star for the Towies by dominating the under twelve girls and winning every race and the first round overall. Iolo Dafydd stormed his way to victory in the scratch race and backed this up with second in the points race and fifth in the elimination, to get second place overall in his first ever race at the velodrome. Sam Smith also rode well in the same category.

Many of the Towies had moved up to under fourteen, which proved a real test with much bigger fields and faster racing. In the girls, Ella Barnwell, Emma Finucane and Danni Parker raced competitively and came away with some good placings and valuable experience against some good opposition. There was a large entry in the under fourteen boys which meant that many of the races required heats and finals. Owain Roberts came away with a fantastic 3rd overall, supported with some excellent performances by Guto Dafydd and Cian Roberts. Jessica Roberts, now riding for RST continued to dominate the U16 girls with a convincing victory.
