Welsh & South of England Track omnium - Reading

The Towy riders youth cycling club were in action in the second round of the Welsh

and South of England Track Omnium championships in Reading last weekend. The

club had competitors in nearly all the youth categories for both girls and boys. The

riders had to compete in five different races over the course of the day. With blue

skies and soaring temperatures the racing was fast and furious starting with an

individual time-trial and concluding with a points race. In the under 12’s there were

great performances from Sam Smith and Tomos Perkins in the boys. Evan Richards

proved too strong for the competition and took his second win in the series taking 1 st

in the under 14 boys with Bryn Davies also competing well. The Towy girls continued

to dominate the U14 girls by taking all three steps on the podium with Emma

Finucane taking 1 st , Amy Cole 2 nd and Rosie Finucane 3rs with a Danielle Parker

completing a fantastic performance with 4 th place. The final round will be at the

indoor velodrome in Newport on the 14 th of May. The top five from each category will

progress to the British Omnium Championships.
