Rhyl Crit Race - Welsh Crit Championships 2021

Sunday morning saw Towy Riders head to North Wales for the Welsh Criterium Championships at Marsh Tracks, Rhyl, which proved to be a worthwhile 330 mile round trip for those who ventured to the Welsh Cycling event.

The early morning start began with success in the under 8s category, where both Henri Butler-Jenkins and Mali Beynon rode for 20minutes and achieved silver medals in the boys and girls categories respectively.

Tomos Hill and Griff Beynon represented Towy Riders in the Under 10s 20minute endurance race around the 1300m track, both gaining a top 10 placing. Their race was followed by Caru Butler-Jenkins completing her Under 12 Girls 35minute race in a respectable 5th position.

The afternoon continued with Team mates and sisters Hannah and Ffion Hill both competing in the Under 14 girls category. Success completed the day with Ffion, who held tight to the front pack for the duration of the 45 minute race, to take the runners up position in silver medal spot, with sister Hannah taking 9th.

Towy Riders cycling coach Will Butler-Jenkins who attended the event with the young riders was over the moon with the results stating

"Its been superb to be back competing, and doing what we do best! Days like this make all the hard work of coaching in wind, rain and sun all worthwhile. The smiles on their faces, their determination, and their endurance against some of the best in the country is absolutely priceless and fills me and the coaching team with such pride when podium positions are achieved at national levels."
