Team Track - Welsh Championships _ Cardiff

The Towy Riders youth cycling club were in action last weekend in the Welsh Team Track championships in Cardiff. The club had competitors in nearly all the youth categories for both girls and boys. The riders had to compete in two different events over the course of the day. With blue skies the racing was fast and furious starting with the team pursuit and concluding with the team sprint.

The under 12’s, 14’s and 16’s were competing in the championships while there were support races for the younger competitors. Emma Finucane, Danni Parker and Amy Cole were crowned Welsh Team Pursuit champions with a fantastic display of controlled pacing.

Both U14 boys (Guto Dafydd, Owain Roberts, Bryn Davies and Cian Roberts) and U12 boys (Iolo Dafydd, Oliver Percey, Morgan Lloyd and Charlie Barnwell) were just pipped to the title and received the silver medal. The team sprint required a more explosive effort with each rider doing 250m of full effort, before allowing the rider behind to take up the pace. Teams consisted of 3 boys or 2 girls.

The Towies had a clean sweep in the the support races.

In the under 10’s there was success for Awen Roberts and in the under 8’s for Rory Gravelle taking the win in both categories.
